Once you have successfully established a team performance plan, you are ready to move to the next step in managing team effectiveness. As mentioned in the previous chapter, the right level of team cohesion is vital in ensuring team effectiveness. Having laid down the foundation for this concept, you can now operationalise this knowledge in the context of managing team effectiveness.
In this chapter, team cohesion is further discussed in detail, specifically in the context of its development and facilitation. Four performance criteria serve as steps in developing and facilitating team cohesion. You must begin by developing strategies for facilitating team member input into planning, decision making and operational aspects of team tasks. After doing so, you must develop or modify policies and procedures for promoting accountability among team members for both personal work and team tasks.
Once you have done these, you will provide team members with feedback on team efforts as well as contributions. Lastly, you will develop processes for identifying and likewise addressing issues, concerns, and problems that have been identified by your team members.
